As consumers and global citizens, each one of us today has two choices: we can either leave a heavy environmental footprint on our planet, or we can choose instead to cast a long green shadow and inspire others to do the same.
Both choices are individual ones. But imagine each multiplied by 6.9 billion, which is the total population on our planet.
First, imagine the global consequences of choice one. We're talking runaway global warming, widespread deforestation, pollution, biodiversity loss and more.
Now imagine a world in which more and more people pick the second choice. Here, there's hope for the future. And each and every one of us can help make that hope, that future, a reality.
Margaret Mead, the 20th century anthropologist, said it best:
Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.
It's true. Change starts with the individual. That's you and that's me.
The message is clear. The steps are simple:
- Avoid using products and doing things that you know damage the environment
