GlobalForce Network is committed to working with vendors and partners who follow responsible, sustainable business practices. As a consumer, when you shop at EcoMart and buy offsets from GlobalForce, you join the climate change fight.
We know our EcoMart customers expect the best, and we continually strive to be as green as possible. For example, wherever we can, we work with our vendors to eliminate unnecessary packaging to limit our impact on the environment. If you find other ways in which we can improve, please let us know. We’re always ready to listen!
Through GlobalForce’s Carbon Offset partners, you can help finance projects that reduce greenhouse gas emissions, making up for any personal CO2 emissions you can’t avoid in your daily life.
Carbon Offset Projects
We’re planting trees! When you buy a carbon offset from GlobalForce, your money goes to help plant trees in various projects around the world aimed at reducing carbon emissions. Want to know more? You can learn about our projects here.
Did you know that deforestation is responsible for 25% of all worldwide CO2 emissions? There’s no perfect solution to the problem of deforestation, other than stopping it completely. Still, we can help by planting and maintaining new forests on vacant land… and that’s exactly what GlobalForce does in cooperation with our offset partners.
Our carefully selected offset partners meet globally recognized standards for the sale of Verified Emission Reduction units (VERs). VERs are sold to the voluntary market – that means businesses and people like us who want to offset their carbon emissions. VERs help invest in carbon reduction projects that have been verified by industry-accepted standards like CCBA, VCS and ISO 14064. (See our FAQs to learn more about these.)
Offsets are recognized as an essential part of an effective climate policy precisely because they can be implemented quickly and at a relatively low cost. Given the level of emissions reductions we need to stabilize the climate, the growing sense of urgency for immediate action, and the cost savings offsets represent for society, offsets are an indispensable component of real climate change solutions.
Additional Co-Benefits. In addition to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, offsets commonly produce other environmental, social and economic co-benefits, including:
- Restoring degraded lands
- Improving watersheds and water quality
- Protecting endangered species
- Creating jobs
We Plant Trees
Planting trees and creating new forests helps remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, but there are many other benefits as well.
Benefits of Trees
- Trees remove CO2 from the atmosphere.
- Trees act as a natural air filter, removing pollutants such as deadly carbon monoxide and sulfur dioxide.
- Trees are natural air conditioners. Trees not only provide cooling shade, but reduce the urban “heat island” effect by absorbing sunlight that would otherwise heat up asphalt and concrete. In fact, studies have found that one well-planted, healthy tree can provide a level of cooling equal to 10 room-size air conditioners operating 20 hours a day.
- Trees absorb water, which protects us from stormwater runoff and flooding.
- Forests provide shelter and natural habitat for wildlife. Protecting biodiversity benefits everyone, and keeps the world a more pleasant place to live in.
